01 — Work

El futuro de la humanidad no está en el guerrero sino en el libro (The future of humanity is not in the warrior but in the book)

I believe that art is powerless, that it is a futile attempt to fix the world. Futile because it has no power, because it is ultimately a poetic struggle, but it is what I, as an artist, can do — and so I aspire, poetically, to come a little closer to the idea of repairing the world beyond my own finitude.

Conceptual statement

In my work I reflect on otherness. Walking through the city, and when I go running, I often come across car windows left in the street, witnesses to an act of vandalism.

In the series El futuro de la humanidad no está en el guerrero sino en el libro (The future of humanity is not in the warrior but in the book), I build books using broken car windows — witnesses to acts of vandalism — and handmade paper. I combine these two materials, which embody both destruction and renewal, suggesting that rebuilding a community alongside the other requires education and care.

The broken windows symbolize violence, while the slow process of making my own paper — planting the plants I use, extracting their fiber, and then preparing the pulp — symbolizes the slower process of repair. Rebuilding requires creativity and responsibility.

Technique

Car windows damaged by acts of vandalism and collected from the street, resin, and handmade paper from plant fibers.
