02 — Work

Entrelíneas (In-Between)

"nothing can ever be fully completed, every work implies a construction en abyme in which each fold refers back to another fold…"
— Beatriz Sarlo

Conceptual statement

I give material form to my interest in cracks, crevices, and folds — the time held within them, a silent power that safeguards memory and keeps it apart from its own destructive potential.

The stacking of layers of handmade paper in ENTRELÍNEAS reflects the construction of human culture, rising layer upon layer as if they were vertical books, or repeating horizontally in an almost organic way.

The elements of the ENTRELÍNEAS series hold both a fragility and a silent austerity. They are the result of a patient, loving craft process that begins in the near-ritual act of sowing my own raw material and culminates, layer upon layer, leaving empty spaces that account for their necessary imperfection, marked by the complexity and diversity proper to the human, constellating habitable space, giving texture, volume, and meaning to the void — cabalistically necessary for creation and desire.

Technique

Handmade paper from plant fibers, wood, metal, cement.
